Isle Of Wight

Day 3 Alum Bay, The Needles and Fossil Hunting

We made use of our alarms this morning after our busy day yesterday but still made it to breakfast on time and got out bright and early to head across the Island to The Needles Park at Alum Bay. We arrived and went straight to see some traditional sweets being made (no photo's as we were concentrating too hard on the sugar!) and got a delicious free sample to try. We then visited the famous sand shop to create our own artistic masterpieces using the various colours of sand collected from the Alum Bay cliffs before crossing the road to see a glass blowing demonstration. After lunch we jumped on the coach for the short hop to Freshwater and our fossil hunting adventure. We learnt all about fossils and got to see and hold some amazing artifacts then headed out to hunt for our own on the beach. We saw fossilised dinosaur footprints and all found something interesting to bring home but Tyler and Julia won the Junior Archaeologist award as they both managed to find pieces of fossilised dinosaur bone! As you can see from our pictures, some of us were very tired on the journey home but we all had a second wind after dinner and enjoyed an evening on the beach before bed. I think we're going to sleep well tonight!

Day 2 Amazon World and Carisbrooke Castle

No Alarm clocks were needed this morning as we were all up bright and early looking forward to our first full day on the island. After a hearty breakfast we set off to Amazon World to explore wildlife from around the world. We loved seeing the animals up close, Jake found the Lemurs especially friendly, and we took so many photos that the batteries ran out on our cameras before lunchtime (no pictures from our afternoon at the castle. Sorry!). After lunch and an opportunity to play in the adventure playground we jumped back on to the coach to head up to Carisbrooke Castle. We were amazed at the views from the top of the castle keep and the perimeter walls and mesmerized by the donkeys working in the Well House. We finished the day with a swim in the hotel pool before dinner and a movie. Let's see what tomorrow has to offer!

Day 1 'The Journey'

After a long wet journey we made it to Southampton to enjoy a breezy but dry ferry (fairy to some!) crossing. As you can see from the photos below, we made it to The Palm Court Hotel just as the sun appeared and enjoyed an afternoon trip to the beach. We've all settled in to our rooms after our first three course meal of the week and a sunset trip to Shanklin Chine. We're all looking forward to the week ahead.

The children arrived at the hotel safely this afternoon.  If you have any questions regarding this trip please contact the school office :-)
