Story Writing

Picture Prompts

Above is a prompt for you to write a story.

Here are a few ideas of where to start:

What was happening before this picture? What happened after this picture? How did the dog make the food? Did the dog's owners know?



Describe the setting using adjectives, similes, metaphors, personification and the senses. 

Describe the characters in the same way. 

Use time conjunctions to make it clear what happened first, next, then after... 

Above is a picture that you can use as inspiration to write a story.

Below is a story starter:


As Poppy stepped into the icy water, she knew that this was her only chance. Her owners had turned their backs for a split second so it was now or never. In the short distance ahead, she could see the getaway boat that her dear sister had organised for her. She hoped her owners would understand. They would, wouldn't they? There was no time to think about that. She took a deep breath and began swimming...
