‘Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it.’

Our aim is to make every child feel valued and happy because that is when learning is most effective.

Jenner Class

Hello! Welcome to Jenner Class!

Teacher: Miss Bailey

LSA: Miss Palmer

LSA: Miss White (Mon, Tues, Weds) & Mrs Williams (Thurs & Fri)

WOW! We cannot believe we are half way through Year 1 already!

Our topic for this term is very exciting. We will be looking at Vincent Van Gogh and his painting of 'Starry Night'. We will be looking at his life, and we will have a strong focus of stars through dance, drama, music and art!

We will be given the opportunity to draw our own versions of Starry Night using a range of materials, listen to the sounds of the stars and dance to our very own star song!

We have got so many exciting activities and events coming up so keep posted by checking the website regularly!

Tuesday 16th May: 9:15am - Jenner Class Assembly

A few quick reminders:

Please ensure that your child has a warm coat and a full PE kit in school in school.

Every night we will be sending home your child's reading book and reading record.  Your child's reading book will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  This is a fantastic resource for you and your child to use and spend some valuable time reading together. Remember, the more times you read at home the more prizes your child will receive.

Literacy and Maths homework will be sent out every Friday to be returned to school the following Wednesday.  The children can also have a go at the Maths challenges I have set them on Manga High.  These are practising our counting in twos, simple addition and subtraction, days of the week, months of the year, and telling the time (o'clock and half past).  Good luck! smiley no

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me any day after school if you have any queries or concerns.

This week have been celebrating many achievements in Jenner class!

This week's SUAGO went to Emily.  Emily is working really hard in Maths and often goes on Manga High to practise! smiley

This week Davika, Rifat, Phoebe, Anh, Yohann, Amelia and Riyan have all received 100% attendance certificates.

We are also proud of Lydia and Noel for winning Kindness Counts Certificates.

Have a look at how our hyacinth bulbs have changed - they flowered just in time for Christmas!

Jenner class Red words

Jenner class made a list of some of their trickier words. We then made a film that we can watch to help us learn and remember these words.

Read, Write, Inc.

Your child will continue to take part in a daily Read, Write, Inc. (RWI) phonics session this year. Each day your child will learn a new sound and will be taught how to put these sounds together to read words. They will also practice writing words with these new sounds in and will gain the knowledge and skills to put these into simple sentences independently. Most of the children have mastered the Set 1 and 2 sounds

Sound Set 1

 m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f, e, l, h, sh, r, j, v, y, w, th, z, ch, qu, x, ng, nk.

Sound Set 2

To date, your son/daughter will have learnt one way in which each long vowel sound is written (Set 2 sounds). When learning their Set 3 speed sounds they will be taught that there are more ways in which the same sounds are written, e.g. ee as in tree and ea as in tea.

Set 3 speed sounds reading will be taught for most of Year 1 and Set 3 ‘speed sounds’ spelling during Year 2. It takes some time for this information to be fully understood by your son/daughter.

There are 20 Set 3 ‘speed sounds’ that are made up of two or three letters which represent just one sound, e.g. ea as in tea, ow as in cow and are as in care. It is important that your son/daughter does not pronounce these as 2 or 3 separate sounds. When your son/daughter sees the ‘speed sound’ letters together in a word, s/he must say just one sound for these letters.

Speed Sounds Set 3

ea oi a-e i-e o-e u-e aw are ur er ow ai oa ew ire ear ure

When your son/daughter learns their Set 3 sounds in school they will learn:

  •  the letters that represent a speed sound e.g. ea
  •  a simple picture prompt linked to the ‘speed sound’ and a short phrase to say e.g. cup of tea

ea: cup of tea

oi: spoil the boy

a-e: make a cake

i-e: nice smile

o-e: phone home

u-e: huge brute

aw: yawn at dawn

are: share and care

ur: purse for a nurse

er: a better letter

ow: brown cow

ai: snail in the rain

oa: goat in a boat

ew: chew the stew

ire: fire fire!

ear: hear with your ear

ure: sure it’s pure?

tion: (celebration)

tious / cious: (scrumptious / delicious

e: he me we she be
